The Wiggles
The Wiggles are Anthony Field, Murray Cook, Greg Page and Jeff Fatt. The first three met when they studied
Early Childhood Education at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Jeff had played in a band with Anthony.
Their first Album, "The Wiggles" was released in 1991. It went Platinum!
Their Early Childhood Education lessons have probably helped them to focus on pleasing their young fans. Children
really do love to see them, listen to them and get up and clap and dance to their songs.
Greg performs magic tricks, Anthony is always hungry and eats, Murray is obsessed with playing his guitar,
and Jeff falls asleep at any given moment. Each of the Wiggles wears a specifically colored shirt. Greg wears
yellow; Murray, red; Anthony, blue; Jeff, purple. In some early videos Anthony worn a green shirt. He switched
to blue because Dorothy the Dinosaur is green. The four Wiggles are accompanied by Dorothy the Dinosaur, Captain
Feathersword, Henry the Octopus, and Wags the Dog.
Dorothy is a big green dinosaur with yellow spots, and white hat and gloves. She loves roses, eating them that is.
She also loves to dance.
Captain Feathersword is a kind and gentle pirate. He has an eye patch and a sword, but the sword is a large
feather. Not surprisingly his ship is named The Good Ship Feathersword. His pirate flag is different from
other pirate flags. It's purple and has his smiling face in front of crossed featherswords.
Henry the Octopus is the friendliest octopus in the world. He is purple and well dressed in a
suit and hat with shoes at the end of each tentacle. How he does anything with all those shoes is a mystery.
He is the leader of of the Underwater Big Band.
Wags the Dog is a big brown dog with floppy ears. He loves to wave to children and dig in the garden.
The Wiggles understand what he is saying when he barks. Like all the other characters he loves dancing.
The Big Red Car carries The Wiggles on some of their adventures.
It's a convertible and the boys just fit into it. It would
be a really tight fit if they had to put the top up. It may or
may not be magical; but it never rains when The Wiggle use it.
The Wiggles first album was released in 1991 and 15 years and 27 albums later, they have received 17 Gold, 12 Platinum,
3 Double Platinum and 10 Multi Platinum Awards for sales of over 17 million DVDs and 4 Million CDs worldwide.
Greg was born in Sydney in 1972. He loves music and has been playing in bands since he was 14. Anthony
was born in Sydney in 1963. Anthony learned to play violin and guitar as a boy. Jeff was born in 1953 in Casino
Northern NSW. Jeff spent most of his youth playing piano with his brother Hilton who played bass. Murray was born
in Cowra in 1960. He started playing guitar when he was eleven years old. As a teenager he performed in amateur
musicals and played in school bands.
The Wiggles are popular internationally. They have toured in Hong Kong, New Zealand, The United Kingdom, The United
States of America and of course in their home, Australia.
