Introduction to Hot Wheels

Hot Wheels are 39 years old. First car off the Mattel assembly line was the Chevrolet Camaro, followed by the release of what is currently the most popular vehicle in the line's history: the Corvette. The 1968 Hot Wheels Corvette was on toy showroom floors before Chevrolet placed the real deal at its dealerships. Over TWO BILLION Hot Wheels have been produced. There are over 10,000 varieties of Hot Wheels. If every Hot Wheels car ever produced was placed front to rear, they would circle the Earth almost four times.

There were 16 different models of Hot Wheels cars produced in 1968 and they sold for 59 cents each. They cost a little more now but are as popular as ever. Today, over 15 million children are avid collectors, and the average collector owns more than 41 Hot Wheels cars. Somewhere in the world two Hot Wheels cars are sold every second of the day! In addition to leading the way with innovative vehicles, playsets and tracks, Hot Wheels cars are also popular collectibles for adults.

Hot Wheels are now involved with most types of automobile racing from NASCAR to Formula One. Cars, drivers, tracks, and signs with the Hot Wheels logo have appeared in NASCAR races, Formula One races, Hot Rod races, and many other types of races.
